Playground Safety

Presently, our playground is a bed of clay that is less than 1/2 inch of pea gravel which is the cushion for protection from a fall. Health and Safety codes require one inch of pea gravel for each foot of the tallest piece of playground equipment for proper protection.

With a bed of clay as the main foundation, the playground does not drain properly, leaving a pond of water after each rain.

 

Proposed Solution:
  • Replacement of the church roof, including flashing, gutters and spouting as needed
  • Install new drainage system
  • Replace rectory roof

Replacement of the Church Roof: Estimated cost $130,000 - $180,000

Options:

  • Slate roof
  • Mock slate
  • 50 yr Shingles

Estimated Costs:

  • Drainage and Site Work (Replacement of blacktop) - $165,000
  • Installation of pea gravel in playground area - $12,000-$15,000
  • New footer drain tile around the church
  • Downspouts tied into new drain system
  • Sump pumps to help take the water to the main line
  • New black top to help drain the water away from the buildings
  • New pea gravel in the playground area to improve drainage and provide safety for our children

Estimated Costs:

Replacement of the rectory roof ($7,000, including asbestos abatement):

Vision for the Future Together Pledges:

  • Goal for the Campaign $ 1,000,000
  • Amount Pledged to date: $601,801
  • Diocesan Commitment (One Faith…Many Blessings): $167,970
  • Repair to the Church/Grounds: $367,000
  • Interior Repairs to Church: $25,000
  • Balance to go to School Endowment, and Parish Deficit as directed by the Board of Overseers

What needs to be done:

  • Interior damage and drainage issues indicate that we need to begin this project as soon as possible.
  • 100% of any additional funds (not previously pledged amounts) will go towards this project.
  • Diocesan directive states that before we begin our project we need 50% cash on hand and the remaining 50% pledged.

  • We need an additional $100,000 by January 2003
  • If you have made a pledge, please consider paying ahead on that pledge
  • If you have not pledged or if you did a one time pledge would you consider making an additional donation or a new pledge.
